I am an assistant professor at the China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences (CAMS), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). I also head the Master of Science in Marine Biotechnology programme at CAMS. At the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, I teach a range of courses related to the subjects of ecology & evolution, genetics, and scientific communication. My current research interests are in using genetic/genomic approaches to answer questions in ecology and evolution of various organisms.

I obtained my B.Sc. in Biotechnology from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Malaysia), and subsequently my M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Evolutionary Genetics from Kyushu University (Japan). My Ph.D. dissertation examined the levels and patterns of genetic variation in Indo-West Pacific Rhizophora mangroves.

After returning to Malaysia in 2014, I joined Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia) as a postdoctoral researcher, where I was involved in several projects on population genetics of various organisms. In 2016, I joined Sun Yat-sen University (China) for a second postdoctoral training in plant evolutionary genomics, using high-throughput sequencing technologies to explore the role of hybridisation in the evolution of the plant genus Melastoma. I then joined XMUM in 2018.

My current research interests are on the characterisation of biodiversity (including micro- and macro-organisms) in the mangrove ecosystem.
